Meet the Team

Gail Ritchie – Course Director and Academic Manager

Gail is our Course Director. She set up AHISS in 2010 as a subsidiary of the Ritchie family business, Ardmay House Outdoor Education Centre. Gail is passionate about language, education, travel and culture and is delighted to be able to welcome children from all over the world to Scotland every year.

Gail is a fully qualified English and Modern Languages Teacher and has a degree in European Studies and French from Kings College London and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Paris.

Gail is lucky to have found her dream job: in the winter she travels the world meeting agents, parents and students and tells them all about AHISS. In the summer she manages the AHISS programmes and makes sure that every student has a fantastic time in Scotland.

Andrew Ritchie – Operations, Activities and Excursions Director

Our operations Director Andrew likes to live the high life. He knows how to have fun and it is his job to make sure that all of our students have a great time at AHISS.

Andrew knows all of Scotland’s hot-spots and arranges the best excursion and activity programme that the country has to offer.

Andrew has a degree in Events and Entertainment management and is also our Head Outdoor Instructor, ensuring that all activities are correctly managed and safe.

Andrew and Margaret Ritchie - Centre Directors

Andrew and Margaret bought Ardmay House in 2000 and converted the building into an Outdoor Education Centre for students from across the UK.

In the winter months Andrew and Margaret love adventure travel – with recent journeys ranging from trekking in Nepal to sailing across the Atlantic on their yacht, Jacana.

Every year they welcome over 1500 children to Ardmay House, ensuring that children from all over the world have the opportunity to explore this beautiful part of the world.

Brenda and Les Rudland – Catering and Hospitality Team

Brenda and Les have worked at Ardmay House for over 5 years after relocating to Scotland from the South-East of England.

They make sure that all our students eat well and are catered to. They pay special attention to all of our students diets, learning what food they like at eat and making sure that they feel at home.

They are proud grandparents to 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, with another on the way.

The permanent members of staff are supported by a team of highly experienced and qualified outdoor instructors and English language teachers.
